My senior graphic design class was tasked with creating our final portfolio showcase and ceremony. Everyone submitted different branding guidelines for the show. My team’s concept was not chosen for the final branding, but we still participated in shaping the overall event. The class was then divided into smaller teams to handle specific deliverables, and I joined the video team since the super branding team’s storyboard idea was very similar to my own.
I wanted the video to feel more casual rather than a formal sit down interview, something that captured our personalities and showed the class interacting directly with the camera. Breanna, who was the video team lead, had a similar vision, which made collaboration feel natural. I took on the role of lead editor and worked closely with the team and the class to gather clips for the different montages outlined in our storyboard. I also recorded most of the b roll from class events, trips, and other moments we wanted to include.
I helped curate a playlist with the team that matched the feeling of our experience in the program, and I edited the entire section from our Chicago class trip. Bre and I worked together on the signature scene, testing a variety of lenses and filming methods to make sure the focus stayed on both the signature and the person signing so everything looked clear. I filmed the majority of the signatures, which became a great bonding experience with my classmates. Bre compiled the signature clips in the final edit and paired them with a song selected from class suggestions, Everybody Wants to Rule the World.
